Porcelain Veneers

A veneer is a wafer-thin piece of material, usually porcelain, that is bonded to the front surface of a tooth to improve its appearance. Veneers can completely transform your smile, giving you the freedom to smile with confidence and live your life to the full.

Most veneers are made of porcelain. It is a strong material that closely resembles the texture and appearance of a human tooth. It can easily be matched to the colour of the other team to seamlessly blend into the smile.

Porcelain veneers are more costly than those made of other materials but most would say it’s a price worth paying. The transformation that porcelain veneers can offer to damaged or misaligned teeth truly has to be seen to be believed – especially with respected, experienced specialists at Holford Partners Curaden.

With a complete range of cosmetic dentistry treatments and services available from some of the most skilled and experienced specialists in their field, Holford Partners Curaden is the dental practice you can trust to meet your smile expectations. You only get one smile – and we’re here to ensure it is as bright and healthy as it can possibly be.

When Are Veneers Used?

Veneers can be used in a wide range of situations to improve the appearance of unsightly teeth. They are a fast, effective solution that is less invasive than procedures like crowns or dental implants. Veneers give the appearance of a wide, healthy smile. They are more permanent and effective than tooth whitening or other ‘freshening up’ treatments.

Tooth Discolouration

Teeth can become discoloured for a number of reasons, such as infection or disease. A discoloured tooth can have a big impact on your smile confidence – but porcelain veneers are a permanent and effective solution, covering the front of the tooth and protecting it from further damage.

Worn Teeth

Worn teeth can make a smile look aged. Veneers can elongate teeth that have been shortened through wear and tear, smoothing any rough edges and giving you a younger looking smile.

Gapped Teeth

Veneers are an alternative treatment to orthodontics, such as invisible braces, for closing gaps between teeth. Veneers can be bonded to the adjacent teeth, completely sealing the gap from view and this can be done in a much shorter time frame than orthodontic treatment.

Misshapen Teeth

Veneers are often the final step in the treatment of misshapen teeth. Holford Partners Curaden is proud to have the finest orthodontists working at our Mayfair practice. Teeth that have craters or bulges can be reshaped and bonded with veneers for a complete smile transformation – not to mention potential benefits for chewing and speech.

FAQs

Veneers As Preventive Treatment

Veneers prevent any further damage to a tooth so, as long as proper oral hygiene is maintained, the tooth should remain healthy.

Porcelain veneers are incredibly strong and durable, with the highest quality materials lasting in excess of fifteen years before needing replacement. Being so hard-wearing makes them ideal for the front teeth, which bear the brunt of most of the acid from food and drink.

Much of the natural tooth is preserved to fit veneers. It is only a very thin layer that is removed, to allow for the firm bonding of the veneer to the tooth. This also ensures you receive a natural looking smile that doesn’t look bulky.

How Are Veneers Fitted?

Veneers are usually fitted over the course of three visits.

Your first appointment will be to discuss exactly what you want to achieve and how veneers can achieve this result. You are in control of how your smile will look – with the guidance of a trained specialist, of course! If you’re going for a smile makeover, now would be the time to get your teeth whitened.

At your second appointment, the teeth being fitted with veneers will need to be prepped. This involves removing a small amount of the natural tooth to accommodate the shell of the veneer and ensure it fits snugly into place and well aligned with the rest of your teeth. Your dentist will use detailed impressions of your teeth to create the individual shapes of your new veneers. It will then be sent to the dental laboratory to be created, exactly to the specifications provided by your dentist.

Your third and final visit will see the veneers bonded to your teeth, permanently transforming the appearance of your smile – and you!
